Jim Farrell
Stoker
First Class Man
-
James Farrell was born in 1886 in Cloonee, Co Longford, Ireland, one of nine children in a Roman Catholic farming family
-
He boarded Titanic at Queenstown as a third class passenger with a £7 ticket (£1,000, $1,250 today)
-
He was acquainted with several others from Longford including the 3 Kates, Kate Gilnagh, Kate Mullins, and Kate Murphey. (played by Liz Leclerc, Siggy Bijou, and Mackenzie Wrape)
-
During the sinking, James stopped a crew member from preventing the women from going to the boats threatening to punch him, shouting “For God’s sake man, let the girls past to the boats, at least!”
-
He gave Kate Gilnagh his cap and she later would refer to him as her guardian angel. (Kate Gilnagh is a real person likely combined with another real person Kate McGowan to create the character played by Liz Leclerc)
-
James died in the disaster, his body was recovered by the MacKay Bennet (#68) and he was buried at sea on April 24th, 1912
